A Father's Day

Not the day, but one of the other 364.

What The Heck Is This?

The idea of ruining a hard working farmer's farm by destroying his crops, letting his dog loose, then watching him try and fix everything was kicking around in my head when I noticed father's day was coming up. This was perfect, as every once in a while I turn an idea I have into a one person private game jam. The farmer became a dad, the crops became household electronics, and boom, a weird experimental "game" was born. As a player you'll look around the level looking for destructible objects, click on them until they break, then watch dad sacrifice his day off to fix your mess. Fun!

3D modeling, texture painting, and animating are absolutely not things I am good at. I spent several hours wrestling this project into existence, largely from old assets I made for other experimental projects. But I am super proud of the NPC dad model I made. I couldn't stop giggling as he came to life, and began to look more and more like my actual dad. I went on a huge tangent and made some GIFs of him dancing. I think he'll be my new default model for future projects.

How Do I Play This?

The goal is to find the breakable objects in the level, then click on them until they break. Dad will prioritize fixing whatever is broken over enjoying his day off, and if you manage to keep him busy long enough his day will be ruined. Yay! Or you could just let him watch the game, whatever makes you feel better. Move the camera around the level with WASD, rotate the view angle with Q and E. Clicking on the dad NPC enables follow mode, if you want to just chill and watch him work.

Special Thanks

The dad NPC would have not have turned out as well as it did without the character design sketches made for me by Caseydoodledood. Their internet presence is lacking, so comment if you'd like to see more of their work.

Obviously I need to thank my dad for being, well, my dad. Sorry about all the lost fishing gear and countless stolen diet cokes.
